Multiwave Tomography with Reflectors: Landweber’s Iteration

We use the Landweber method for numerical simulations for the multiwave tomography problem with a reflecting boundary and compare it with the averaged time reversal method. We also analyze the rate of convergence and the dependence on the step size for the Landweber iterations on a Hilbert space.

Multiwave methods via ultrasound

We survey recent results by the authors on multiwave methods where the high-resolution method is ultrasound. We consider the inverse problem of determining a source inside a medium from ultrasound measurements made on the boundary of the medium. Some multiwave medical imaging methods where this is considered are photoacoustic tomography, thermoacoustic tomography, ultrasound modulated tomograph...

Instability of the Linearized Problem in Multiwave Tomography of Recovery Both the Source and the Speed

In this paper we consider the linearized problem of recovering both the sound speed and the thermal absorption arising in thermoacoustic and photoacoustic tomography. We show that the problem is unstable in any scale of Sobolev spaces.

Leaky-mode resonant reflectors with extreme bandwidths.

We present ultrawide flat-band reflectors enabled with multilevel resonant leaky-mode structures. The reflectors are designed using particle swarm optimization. We show that three-level silicon-on-insulator structures provide bandwidths of approximately 840 nm for TE polarization and approximately 835 nm for TM polarization, across which reflectance is greater than 99% and 97.5%, respectively. ...

Surface plasmon polariton microscope with parabolic reflectors.

We report the realization of a two-dimensional optical microscope for surface plasmons polaritons (SPPs) based on parabolic Bragg mirrors. These mirrors are built from lithographically fabricated gold nanostructures on gold thin films. We show by direct imaging by leakage radiation microscopy that the magnification power of the SPP microscope follows basic predictions of geometrical optics. Spa...
